About The ABCs of Death

"The ABCs of Death" is a 2012 anthology horror movie produced by Ant Timpson and Tim League. Comprising 26 different shorts, each by different directors spanning fifteen countries, the film weaves a unique narrative of death and its varied interpretations. The directors were provided with a letter of the alphabet and asked to choose a word, then they had to create a story involving death that revolved around the selected word.

Making / Production

The film was born out of an idea by Producer Ant Timpson, inspired by the children's educational books. Tim League came on board as the other producer, and they selected 25 established directors who were asked to pick a letter, and subsequently a word, to create an interesting death narrative. They also ran a contest for the 26th director. Hundreds of short films were submitted and were whittled down to the final selection, which was then included in the finished film.

Actors

  • Ingrid Bolsø Berdal as Fraulein, who played her role as a sinister teacher in "L is for Libido."
  • Kyra Zagorsky as Lainey, portrayed a desperate mother in the beautifully horrifying "T is for Toilet."
  • Peter Pedrero is the fearsome monster in "X is for XXL," presenting a grotesque commentary on body image.

Trivia / Interesting Facts

  • The film features a total of 26 different types of deaths, each associated with a different letter of the alphabet.
  • For the contest to find the 26th director, over 170 short films were submitted.

Awards

Despite its unique premise, "The ABCs of Death" did not win any mainline awards.
