About Akashinga: The Brave Ones

Akashinga: The Brave Ones is a 2020 documentary short film directed by Maria Wilhelm. The movie tells a heartening story of the all-female anti-poaching unit in Zimbabwe, whose members are survivors of some form of social disadvantage or abuse. They find themselves on the front lines of a war on poaching. It showcases how these women redefine traditional notions of power and redefine the role of women in leadership.

The movie was produced by the National Geographic Documentary Films. It was directed by Maria Wilhelm, an Emmy-nominated executive producer and director.
