About American Graffiti

The storyline revolves around a group of teenagers and their adventures on their last summer night before going off to college. The film set a trend for movies about teenagers and their experiences with love, freedom, and growing up.

Making / Production

The film was a tribute to the car culture, drive-ins, and rock 'n' roll era of Lucas's youth in 1962 Modesto, California. Produced by Francis Ford Coppola's production company, American Zoetrope, it was made on a budget of approximately $777,000 but grossed over $200 million, making it one of the most profitable films of all time. Filming took place primarily at night, to capture the aesthetic of the quintessential American summer night.
