About The Bastard Executioner

The Bastard Executioner is a historical fiction drama series aired in 2015. The TV series is a brainchild of Kurt Sutter, who is also the creator of Sons of Anarchy. Set in Wales during the early 14th century, the series tells the story of Wilkin Brattle, a knight in the army of King Edward I. After getting spiritually broken by the horrors of war, he lays down his weapon to live peacefully with his wife. However, his peaceful life is shrouded by the violence of his past when divine forces lead him to become the executioner.

Kurt Sutter teamed up with FX network to bring this unique storyline to life. Filming mostly took place in the UK to showcase the right atmosphere and landscapes in the 14th Century. A lot of research went into making sure the historical elements of the series were accurately portrayed.
