About Batman Returns
Batman Returns, released in 1992, is the thrilling sequel to Tim Burton's original 1989 Batman film. The plot centers around Batman (Michael Keaton) battling two new foes: Oswald Cobblepot, the Penguin (Danny DeVito), who is bent on revenge against Gotham's elite due to his physical abnormalities, and Selina Kyle, Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer), a secretary turned masked vigilante after a near-fatal accident. These dual threats force Batman to confront his own darkness while protecting Gotham.
Making / Production
Tim Burton, the director, brought his unique visual style to Batman Returns, further darkening the tone from the previous film. It was produced by Denise Di Novi and Burton, written by Daniel Waters and shot by cinematographer Stefan Czapsky. The sleek Batmobile, Gothic architecture of Gotham City, and elaborate costumes brought the dark comic book world to life.
