About Bicycle Thieves

Bicycle Thieves is a thought-provoking movie that was released in 1948. Directed by Vittorio De Sica, it's based on a novel by Luigi Bartolini, and the screenplay was done by Oreste Biancoli, Adolfo Franci, Gerardo Guerrieri, Cesare Zavattini, Suso Cecchi d'Amico and Vittorio De Sica. The movie tells the story of Antonio, a poor man who gets his bicycle stolen in post-war Rome. The bicycle was his only means of transport to work, and its loss leaves him helpless. With his son, Bruno, Antonio embarks on an odyssey to recover the bike, encountering a range of experiences along the way.

The film was produced by Umberto Scarpelli and Vittorio De Sica, under the banner of Produzioni De Sica. This Italian neorealist movie was shot entirely on location in the streets of Rome, employing several non-professional actors in significant roles.
