About Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a critically acclaimed American television series created by Joss Whedon. The show premiered on March 10, 1997, on the WB and concluded on May 20, 2003. The series puts a contemporary spin on the horror genre, blending elements of drama, comedy, and romance with a supernatural twist. The series follows Buffy Summers (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar), a young woman chosen to battle against vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness. Being the 'Slayer', Buffy is aided by a Watcher, who guides and trains her, and a circle of friends known as the 'Scooby Gang'.

Making / Production

The show was produced by Mutant Enemy Productions and co-distributed by 20th Century Fox Television. It was shot in a 4:3 aspect ratio (available in 16:9 widescreen ratio in DVD releases) on a film-based transfer. The writing process involved Whedon and his writing team brainstorming, scripting, and polishing each episode collaboratively.
