Californication is a television series released in 2007 by Showtime. The series primarily revolves around the life of novelist Hank Moody (David Duchovny) who moves to California and suffers from severe writer's block, his vices and his relationships with his daughter and her mother.

Moody's life appears to be one never-ending party, but he's continuously dogged by the need to find true happiness beyond the pleasures of the moment. In between all of these, he tries to reconcile with his ex-girlfriend, Karen, and establish a stable relationship with his teenage daughter, Becca.

Making / Production

Californication was conceived by Tom Kapinos, who served as the series' main writer and executive producer. He drew on experience from his own life to create the character of Hank Moody. The series was shot in various locations in Los Angeles, California, the state being a character in and of itself in the series.

• David Duchovny (Hank Moody): Duchovny does a brilliant job playing Hank Moody, a troubled writer with a complex love life and plenty of personal demons.
• Natascha McElhone (Karen van der Beek): McElhone perfectly portrays Karen, Hank's long-term love interest.

• Pamela Adlon (Marcy Runkle): Adlon plays Charlie's wife, who, like her husband, has her own share of quirks.
