About 'The Call of The Wild'

"The Call of the Wild" is a 2020 American adventure film based on the Jack London's 1903 novel of the same name. Set during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush, the film's narrative follows a dog named Buck, who is suddenly uprooted from his pampered life in California and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Alaskan Yukon during the Gold Rush.

Making / Production

Directed by Chris Sanders, in his live-action directorial debut, the movie was a modern take on the age-old story blending live action and animation. The movie pivoted around a digital creation of Buck, the dog, which was a technologically advanced feat in itself.

Actors

  • Harrison Ford as John Thornton - Provided a sturdy, nuanced portrayal of a man aiming to discover himself in the Alaskan wilderness.
  • Omar Sy as Perrault - Portrayed an enthusiastic and kind mail deliverer who first introduces Buck to the joys of sled-running.
  • Dan Stevens as Hal - Perfectly brought out the malevolent nature of the arrogant city dweller, menacing at each turn.

Trivia / Interesting Facts

  • Buck was created entirely through the use of computer graphics imaging (CGI).
  • The movie was the last film released under the 20th Century Fox banner before Walt Disney changed the studio's name to 20th Century Studios.
  • It marked the first live-action role for director Chris Sanders.

Quotes

  • "He was a dog like no other. He'd been spoiled, and he suffered, but he could not be broken."
  • "I'm glad you're enjoying this. I never saw him believe in anything as much as he believes in you."

Music / Soundtrack

  • The film's score is composed by Hollywood music maestro John Powell.
  • The soundtrack includes a song "Call of the Wild" by John Powell and Blake Shelton.
