About Carrie (HBO)
Released in 2013, "Carrie" is a gripping horror film based on the 1974 novel of the same name by Stephen King. It serves as the third film adaptation of the iconic horror tale, following the acclaimed 1976 version directed by Brian De Palma and the 2002 television movie. The movie presents a story about a high school girl, Carrie White, who discovers she has telekinetic powers. Trapped in an abusive relationship with her overbearing mother, precariously navigating the high school social hierarchy, and grappling with her newfound powers, Carrie's life spirals rapidly out of control, leading to a cataclysmic climax.
Making / Production
The film was directed by Kimberly Peirce and produced by Kevin Misher. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a successful comic book writer as well as a writer for film and television, wrote the screenplay. The movie aimed at closer adherence to the original Stephen King novel while also drawing influence from the 1976 film.
