About The Cat Returns
The Cat Returns, released in 2002, is an engaging Japanese animated fantasy film. The film was produced by Studio Ghibli and directed by Hiroyuki Morita. It is a spin-off of the studio's earlier film, Whisper of the Heart, and revolves around a shy girl named Haru who is able to talk to cats. After she saves a mysterious cat from being hit by a truck, Haru is showered with gifts by the cat kingdom and is also proposed to by the Cat Prince. However, when she wants to return home, Haru is instead taken to the Cat Kingdom where further adventures await her. Haru is then helped by a cat baron and a raven to return home and is eventually successful.
Making / Production
The Cat Returns started as a short project by Studio Ghibli for a theme park, but its development eventually led to a complete feature-length film. Aoi Hiiragi's manga was the source which inspired the primary storyline of the movie. The movie did very well at the box office and earned positive critical acclaim, with many praising its engaging plot and visually attractive animations.
Actors
- Chizuru Ikewaki: She played the voiced character of Haru. She brilliantly conveyed the character's innocence and adventurous spirit, making Haru a relatable protagonist.
