About Chivalry of a Failed Knight

"Chivalry of a Failed Knight" is a 2015 anime TV series based on the light novel series written by Riku Misora and illustrated by Won. The story centers around a world where humans can manifest superhuman abilities, and students are trained to become magical knights. Among them is protagonist, Ikki Kurogane, considered a failure due to his low magical abilities, but he's determined to become a magical knight regardless.

Making / Production

The series was produced by Silver Link and Nexus studios. Shin Oonuma directed the show, while Shogo Yasukawa handled the scripts. The series aired from October to December in 2015 and had a total of 12 episodes.

Actors

• Ryota Osaka: Voiced the protagonist, Ikki Kurogane. His performance excellently brought out the character's determination and strength, despite him being a "weak" knight.
• Shizuka Ishigami: Played the role of Stella Vermillion, a talented princess. She perfectly captured her character's pride and strength, and her vulnerability whenever she's with Ikki.
• Nao Tōyama: Brought to life Shizuku Kurogane, Ikki’s little sister. With her confident yet sweet voice, she managed to bring depth into her character.
• Yusuke Kobayashi: Voiced the role of Nagi "Alice" Arisuin, Ikki's closest friend. Kobayashi‘s brilliant voice work embodied Alice's composure and charisma.

• The title "Chivalry of a Failed Knight" is a word-play showing protagonist's paradoxical status in the society - seen as a failure in terms of magic, but exceptional in terms of chivalry and sheer will power.
• While the TV series aired for only one season, the light novel on which it’s based has 17 volumes.
• Stella Vermillion's design is influenced by Tsundere Archetype from anime culture. A character that initially comes off as cold or hostile, but gradually exhibits a warmer and friendly side over time.
