About Diana

The film "Diana", released in 2013, unfolds the last two years in the life of Diana, Princess of Wales. It follows her love affair with Pakistani heart surgeon, Dr. Hasnat Khan, and her subsequent relationship with Dodi Fayed, leading up to the tragic car accident in 1997 that claimed their lives. Much of the film explores Diana's humanitarian efforts and her struggle to balance her personal life with her public persona.

Making / Production

Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel and penned by Stephen Jeffreys, the movie comes from a screenplay based on "Diana: Her Last Love". The film was produced by Ecosse Films; shooting primarily took place in London, England and other locations that were significant in Diana's life.

Actors

  • Naomi Watts portrays Princess Diana. She delivers a touching performance which brings to life the vulnerability and charisma of the princess.
  • Naveen Andrews plays Dr. Hasnat Khan, Diana's lover. He presents a credible interpretation of the reserved, privacy-loving doctor who caught the princess's eye.
  • Douglas Hodge stars as Paul Burrell, Diana's trusted butler, embodying the loyalty and affection Burrell offered Diana.

Trivia / Interesting Facts

  • Director Hirschbiegel previously made the film "Downfall", which showcased the final hours of Adolf Hitler.
  • The film was a controversial one, with Naomi Watts confessing she was taking on the role with trepidation – Diana was simply too important, too significant, a person to mimic.
  • The hospital scenes in the movie were shot at King's College Hospital in London, where Dr. Hasnat Khan really worked.

Music, Soundtrack

The soundtrack was composed by Keefus Ciancia and David Holmes, perhaps best known for their scoring of the series Killing Eve. The sonic ambience of the film stays true to the late 90s with a guitar-heavy score.
