About Doc McStuffins

Released in 2012, "Doc McStuffins" is an animated children's television series produced by Brown Bag Films. It was created and executive produced by Chris Nee and premiered on March 23, 2012, on Disney Channel and Disney Junior. The show is about a little girl named Dottie "Doc" McStuffins who can "fix" toys, with a little help from her stuffed animal friends. When she puts on her stethoscope, toys, dolls, and stuffed animals come to life and she can communicate with them.

Making / Production

The concept for the show was inspired by the lack of African American female leads in children's programming. Chris Nee describes the series as "Cheers for Preschoolers." The production team worked with a group of medical consultants, including the executive director of the Nemours Foundation's Center for Children's Health Media, to keep the show medically accurate. The show is also noted for its extensive use of music, with nearly every episode featuring an original song.

Actors

  • Kiara Muhammad voices the main character, Doc McStuffins. Kiara portrays Dottie as a caring, nurturing character with a big heart.
  • Lara Jill Miller voices Lambie. Lambie is Doc's right-hand stuffed lamb who loves performing ballet and comforting the patients.
  • Robbie Rist voices Stuffy, a proud yet clumsy dragon who is always ready for a daring adventure.
  • Loretta Devine voices Hallie, a caring and reliable hippo nurse who assists Doc in the clinic.

Trivia / Interesting Facts

  • The character of Doc was inspired by the show creator's son, who used to imagine his toys could talk.
  • Doc's magical stethoscope was a gift from her grandmother, who used to be a nurse.
  • Despite being an animated show, the production team works with real doctors to ensure accuracy in every episode.
