This movie is a special episode of the Sword Art Online series that aired on December 31, 2013. It follows the original story where players are trapped in a virtual reality video game and the only way to escape is to finish the game. Making / Production
The movie was produced by A-1 Pictures and directed by Tomohiko Itō. It was written by Reki Kawahara, the original author of the Sword Art Online series. The characters' designs were done by Shingo Adachi.
Actors
- Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, who gave a passionate voice-over performance as Kirito, the main character and a skilled player determined to escape the game.
- Haruka Tomatsu, portrayed Asuna, a fierce fighter who creates a close bond with Kirito. Tomatsu's performance brought out the character's strength and vulnerability.
- Rina Hidaka, performed Silica, a young beast tamer who looks up to Kirito. Hidaka's innocent and enthusiastic delivery perfectly suited the character.
- Nobunaga Shimazaki and Miyuki Sawashiro, gave voice to the characters of Sinon and Yui respectively. Their clear and emotive portrayal added depth to their characters.
