This movie is a special episode of the Sword Art Online series that aired on December 31, 2013. It follows the original story where players are trapped in a virtual reality video game and the only way to escape is to finish the game. The movie featured a recap of the Aincrad and Fairy Dance arcs and a brand new underwater quest adventure.

Making / Production

The movie was produced by A-1 Pictures and directed by Tomohiko Itō. It was written by Reki Kawahara, the original author of the Sword Art Online series. The characters' designs were done by Shingo Adachi.

Actors

  • Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, who gave a passionate voice-over performance as Kirito, the main character and a skilled player determined to escape the game.
