About Float

"Float" is a 2019 experimental film from the Pixar Animation Studio. This short movie is part of the SparkShorts, Pixar's program to discover new storytellers. The film was directed by Bobby Rubio and produced by Krissy Cababa and Michael Yates.

The story revolves around a father and son. The son has a unique ability - he can float. This strikes amazement and fear among other people, leading the father to isolate his son to keep him safe. However, trying to suppress his son's unique ability only causes more harm and this realization helps the father to accept his son for who he is.

Making / Production

Float was part of Pixar's experimental storytelling initiative known as SparkShorts. The animation was done using new technologies with the aim of exploring new techniques and artistic visions. It was directed by Bobby Rubio, marking his directorial debut with Pixar. Rubio also wrote the story, which was inspired by his own experiences parenting a child with autism.

Actors
