About Friday The 13th: Part II (HBO)

"Friday the 13th: Part II" is a 1981 American slasher film directed by Steve Miner. It is a sequel to 1980's "Friday the 13th". The plot follows Jason Voorhees, who becomes the killer in this film, as he begins stalking a group of counselor trainees living at the training grounds next to his abandoned camp Crystal Lake. The film became a financial success, cementing itself as a slasher classic.

Making / Production

Steve Miner, having worked on the original film as an associate producer, took the directorial reigns for Part II. Writers Ron Kurz and Phil Scuderi worked intricately to create a continuity from the first film and introduce Jason as a more significant character. The film was primarily shot in Connecticut in late 1980 to mimic the New Jersey setting of the first film.

Actors

  • Amy Steel as Ginny Field - Shows a phenomenal skill in portraying the smart and resourceful protagonist.
  • John Furey as Paul Holt - Plays the role of the head counselor with authority and conviction.
  • Adrienne King as Alice Hardy - Returns from the first movie, continuing her terrified and haunted performance.

Trivia / Interesting Facts

  • While the iconic hockey mask did not appear until the third installment, in this film, Jason wears a sack over his head as his mask.
  • Adrienne King's screen time was reduced due to a stalker problem she had in real life after the success of the original film.
  • The final climax scene was heavily edited down by MPAA to avoid an X rating.

Awards

While "Friday the 13th: Part II" didn't win any major awards, it is widely regarded as a classic in the horror genre.
