Based on the best-selling novel series 'A Song of Ice and Fire' by George R.R. Martin, HBO's 'Game of Thrones' premiered in 2011 and ran for eight seasons until 2019. The series is set in a fictional world consisting of two primary continents, Westeros and Essos, where power struggles ensue among noble families as they vie for control of the Iron Throne in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.
