About High School DxD

The anime, High School DxD, is based on the light novel written by Ichiei Ishibumi. It was first aired in 2012 and quickly gained popularity due to its unique blend of comedy, action, and romance. The plot revolves around Issei Hyoudou, a perverted high school student from Kuoh Academy who is killed by his first date, revealed to be a fallen angel. However, he is soon revived as a demon by Rias Gremory, a buxom third-year student at the same academy, and becomes her servant.

Making / Production

High School DxD was produced by studio TNK, directed by Tetsuya Yanagisawa and its screenplay was written by Takao Yoshioka. Four seasons and several OVA episodes have been released so far.

Actors

  • Yuki Kaji is the Japanese voice actor for Issei Hyoudou, the protagonist of the series. Kaji portrayed him as a lecherous, but kind-hearted high school student.
  • Yoko Hikasa voiced Rias Gremory, the main female character. Hikasa perfectly captured the character's strength and sensuality.
  • Shizuka Itou lent her voice to Akeno Himejima, another lead female role. Itou masterfully expressed the character's seductive and playful personality.
  • Azumi Asakura provided the voice for Asia Argento, capturing her innocence and kind-heart.

Trivia / Interesting Facts

  • The opening theme song's titles for all four seasons play with the term "sympathy". For example, "Sympathy" on the first season, "Passionate Sympathy" on the second one, and so on.
  • The anime includes references to mythologies from multiple religions, such as Christianity, Norse mythology, and Japanese folklore.
  • Rias Gremory, one of the main characters, her surname came from a demon's name from real demonology.
