About Home on the Range

Home on the Range is a 2004 American animated western comedy movie, produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. The film is about an assortment of farm animals who try to save their damaged farm by catching a notorious cattle rustler named Alameda Slim.

Making / Production

The film was directed by Will Finn and John Sanford and was the 45th animated feature in the Disney Animated Canon. The movie was produced by DisneyToon Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It was the second to last traditionally-animated Disney film before the studio briefly switched exclusively to computer animation.

Actors

• Judi Dench as Mrs. Calloway - She brings to life a refined, British dairy cow with a classy and assertive demeanor.
• Rosanne Barr as Maggie - She provides the voice for the outgoing and adventurous cow who often leads the group.
• Randy Quaid as Alameda Slim - He plays the principal antagonist, a cunning and sneaky cattle rustler.
• Steve Buscemi as Wesley - He brings his trademark quirky character to play, serving as Alameda Slim's right-hand man.

Trivia / Interesting Facts

• This film marked the first time that Disney had produced a western-style animation.
• In its original plan, the film was to be titled Sweating Bullets and was much darker in tone.
• Despite having a less favorable reception initially, over time, it has found a cult following among animation fans.

Awards

While Home on the Range wasn't a major award-winner, it did receive a nomination for Best Animated Feature at the Young Artist Awards.
