About The House of Mirth

'The House of Mirth' is a British-American drama directed by Terence Davies, and based on Edith Wharton’s 1905 novel of the same name. The movie takes us back to the turn of the 20th century, exploring the society of New York's upper class. Our protagonist, Lily Bart, a well-born but penniless woman, struggles to conform to social standards. Her ambition and romantic inclinations become her downfall, as she struggles against the strict social code of her era.
