About The Hug (2018)

"The Hug" is a haunting yet thrilling 2018 horror short film directed by Max Gold. Released just in time for Halloween, the movie turns a joyous children's birthday party at a pizza arcade into a nightmarish scenario as the birthday boy ventures backstage to find an animatronic panda that is off duty.

The protagonist, a young and innocent boy, experiences the tragic and horrifying reality beneath the surface of his seemingly fun and carefree birthday celebration. The panda, which is known to engage and entertain kids, becomes an instrument of horror offstage. The tension in the plot works effectively with the PG-13 rating content, heightening the sense of dread and fear.

Making/Production

The short and compact storytelling style, coupled with a slowly mounting sense of dread, turned the movie into a chilling horror experience. The production design team incorporated the thrilling elements of horror effectively into the brightly colored setting of a children's party, creating a frightening juxtaposition.
