Iron Man 3 is a 2013 superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics character Iron Man. The movie is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the sequel to 2008's Iron Man, and 2010's Iron Man 2, and the seventh film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The plot follows Tony Stark (Iron Man), who is haunted by his past as he embarks on a journey to uncover the truth behind a terrorist organization, while also struggling with the anxiety caused by the alien invasion depicted in the movie "The Avengers".

Making / Production

Directed by Shane Black, it's written by Drew Pearce and Black. The film was an immense challenge to create due to the integral use of CGI for the suit sequences and the complexity of the fight scenes. Production also involved numerous location shoots around the world including China, Miami, and Los Angeles.

Actors

• Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man: Downey added the necessary depth to Tony Stark's character, portraying Stark's anxiety and determination with equal measure. His performance further established him as the heart of the MCU.
• Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts: She deepens her role as Stark’s assistant and love interest, going through her own tumultuous journey.
• Don Cheadle as James "Rhodey" Rhodes / War Machine: Cheadle fully embraces his superhero alter ego, depicting the soldier's steadfast loyalty and camaraderie.
• Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian: Pearce portrays Killian as a manipulative and charismatic genius, representing an ideological and physical threat to Stark.

Trivia / Interesting Facts

• This is the first Iron Man film not to be directed by Jon Favreau, who opted to direct the Magic Kingdom film instead.
• The original plot of comic book Mandarin was altered for the movie. Instead of being an actual villain, he was shown as an actor hired by the real villain, Aldrich Killian.
• Iron Man 3 is the first movie in the Iron Man series that doesn't end with a press conference.

Awards

Iron Man 3 was nominated for an Academy Award for Visual Effects and won the BAFTA for Best Special Visual Effects.
