"Lava" is a 2015 American computer-animated musical short film, produced by Pixar Animation Studios. The movie is directed by James Ford Murphy and features a song written by Murphy and performed by Kuana Torres Kahele and Napua Greig. The short is a musical love story that takes place over millions of years and is inspired by the isolated beauty of tropical islands and the explosive allure of ocean volcanoes.

Making / Production

The short movie is a result of Pixar’s internal program to develop new storytelling and directing talents. The movie took roughly three years to make, it is director Murphy’s debut after working 20 years at Pixar.

Actors

• Kuana Torres Kahele - Voiced Uku, a lonely volcano looking for his true love. His melancholic yet hopeful voice perfectly captures Uku's feelings.
• Napua Greig - Provided voice for Lele, the love interest of Uku. Greig brings a soft and tender tone that complements the love story.
