The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is an epic fantasy adventure film directed by Peter Jackson based on the first volume of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It tells the story of young hobbit Frodo Baggins who embarks on an epic quest to destroy the One Ring, which holds great power that could enslave the whole Middle-earth. He, along with the Fellowship which includes eight companions, must travel across Middle-Earth and cast the Ring back into the fiery pits of Mount Doom, where it was first forged.

The movie was produced by New Line Cinema and WingNut Films and was released on December 10, 2001. Under Peter Jackson's direction, filming took place in various locations in New Zealand over a course of eight weeks.
