About Luca

Luca is a 2021 American computer-animated coming-of-age film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film is directed by Enrico Casarosa in his directorial debut.
The movie is set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera. The movie tells the captivating story of a boy named Luca who experiences an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta, and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend Alberto, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret; he is a sea monster from another world just below the sea's surface.

Making / Production

The film was conceived by Enrico Casarosa, inspired by his childhood in Genoa, Italy. He also directed the film, marking it his first-feature-length film directorial debut. The production team traveled to Italy for research, studying architecture and culture to capture the small-town charm that they sought to portray in the film.
