About Max

"Max" is a 2015 American adventure drama film directed by Boaz Yakin and co-written by Yakin and Sheldon Lettich. The film stars Josh Wiggins, Mia Xitlali, Dejon LaQuake, Thomas Haden Church, Robbie Amell, Lauren Graham, Luke Kleintank, and Jay Hernandez. The film talks about a military dog from Afghanistan, Max, who is adopted by his late handler's grieving family in the U.S., where his close bond with the soldier's brother leads to a life-altering revelation.

Making / Production

The filmmakers decided to use Belgian Malinois, like the U.S. military does. Hence, five Malinois dogs were used in the production of this film. The titular role of Max was also shared by five canine actors. It was filmed in and around Charlotte, North Carolina.

Actors

  • Josh Wiggins plays Justin Wincott, Kyle's brother who adopts Max after Kyle's death. Wiggins showed exceptional characterization as a troubled teenager trying to connect with his brother's dog.
  • Mia Xitlali plays Carmen, a local girl who helps Justin train and take care of Max. She brought energy and heart to her character.
  • Thomas Haden Church portrays Ray Wincott, the stoic father of Justin. His portrayal was nuanced and resonated well with audiences.
  • Lauren Graham plays Pamela Wincott, the worried and caring mother. Graham’s performance added depth to her character.

  • This was the first film Luke Kleintank did in which he had to smoke almost throughout the entire film.
  • Max, the dog who played the title character, is a Belgian Malinois. This breed is well-known for its police and military service.
