About Mortal Kombat
The 2021 film "Mortal Kombat" is a martial arts fantasy film based on the video game franchise of the same name. The plot follows Cole Young, a washed-up MMA fighter unaware of his heritage or why Outworld's Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, to hunt him down. Cole finds sanctuary at Lord Raiden's temple, where he begins training with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and rogue mercenary Kano. Together, they prepare to stand against Outworld in a high-stakes battle for the universe.
Making / Production
"Mortal Kombat" was produced by New Line Cinema, NetherRealm Studios, and Atomic Monster Productions. The film was directed by Simon McQuoid in his directorial debut, from a screenplay by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham. Production took place in South Australia, marking the country's biggest production to date.
Actors
- Lewis Tan as Cole Young - Tan convincingly portrayed a struggling MMA fighter, expertly handling both the physicality and emotional depth of the role.
