About Mulan (1998)

Mulan is a 1998 American animated musical adventure film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. The movie is based on the Chinese folklore "The Ballad of Mulan", and is the 36th Disney animated feature film. It is set in old-time China and narrates the story of a young Chinese maiden who secretly goes off to war in her frail father’s place. Disguised as a male soldier, Mulan sets off on a grand journey that transforms her into an honored warrior and earns her the respect of a grateful nation and a proud father.

Production began in 1994, at various studios in California and France, with a primarily male creative team. The movie is noted for its unique blend of traditional animation and computer-generated imagery. It was directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook, with a story written by Robert D. San Souci.

Actors
