About Muppet Treasure Island
Muppet Treasure Island is a 1996 musical adventure comedy film directed by Brian Henson. The movie is loosely based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel, Treasure Island. It explores a charming narrative where the Muppet characters set out on a thrilling quest for buried treasure.
The film starts with young Jim Hawkins and his friends Gonzo and Rizzo embarking on a wild adventure when they discover a treasure map. Along the way, they encounter a slew of characters, including the fearsome Long John Silver. As they navigate danger at every turn, treasure isn't the only thing they learn about.
Making / Production
The film, released by Walt Disney Pictures, was the first Muppets production to be made without the assistance of Jim Henson, who passed away six years before its release. His son, Brian Henson, took over directing duties. Despite the changes in production, the movie maintained the whimsical and intelligent humor characteristic of the Muppets.
