About Nightbreed

Nightbreed is a 1990 American dark fantasy horror film written and directed by Clive Barker. The film follows a troubled young man who is drawn into the mythical city of Midian where a variety of friendly monsters are hiding from humanity. Here, he learns that he himself is a half-human, half-monster creature of the night.

Making / Production

Barker decided to write and direct the Nightbreed movie based on his 1988 novella Cabal. Despite facing budget constraints and studio interference, Barker was able to bring his vision to life with the help of experienced special effects artists and a dedicated cast and crew.

  • David Cronenberg as Dr. Phillip K. Decker: Known primarily as a director, Cronenberg shines in his acting role, portraying the sinister character with great depth.

Quotes

  • "To be able to fly... To be smoke, or a wolf... To know the night, and live in it forever... That's not so bad. You call us monsters, but when you dream, you dream of flying, and changing, and living without death. You envy us, and what you envy..." - Peloquin

Music, Soundtrack

  • The film's score was composed by Danny Elfman, known for his work on numerous Tim Burton films. The soundtrack perfectly captures the mesmerizing and eerie atmosphere of the Nightbreed's world.
