John West, played by William Baldwin, is a search and rescue officer in Boston. After the sudden death of his wife, Sarah, he moves with his three children – Maddie, Scout, and Taylor – to the small community of Turtle Island Bay in Ontario, Canada. John decides to take on the role of Deputy Contingent Commander for Search and Rescue in an effort to reconnect with his family after their loss. The West family faces various challenges as they adapt to their new environment. Maddie, the eldest daughter, struggles with the loss of her mother as she navigates adolescence. Scout, the middle child, is a sensitive and thoughtful boy who finds solace in horses. Taylor, the youngest, has difficulty adjusting to the loss of her mother and the move to a new town. As John and his children settle into their new lives, they form new connections with the people of Turtle Island Bay.
