About O

O is a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy, "Othello", released in 2001. The movie is set in an American high school and revolves around a basketball player named Odin 'O' James. Odin is manipulated by the envious Hugo into thinking that his girlfriend, Desi, is cheating on him with his best friend. The plot dramatically unfolds as love, jealousy, and envy lead to tragic consequences.

Making / Production

The film went through numerous distribution problems and was initially scheduled for release in April 1999 but was postponed until August 2001. It was directed by Tim Blake Nelson, produced by Eric Gitter and Daniel L. Fried, and written by Brad Kaaya. The story was set in a modern context to bring Shakespeare's play to a younger audience.

Actors

  • Mekhi Phifer as Odin: Phifer gives a powerhouse performance as the tragic hero, bringing depth and complexity to his character.
  • Julia Stiles as Desi: Stiles shines as the ingenuous and devoted girlfriend. Seeing her character torn between love and betrayal is heartbreaking.
  • Josh Hartnett as Hugo: Hartnett's portrayal of the jealous and manipulative best friend is dramatically compelling.
  • Andrew Keegan as Michael Cassio: Subtly portrays the unknowing pawn of Hugo's plot.

Trivia / Interesting Facts
