Pacific Rim: Uprising is a science fiction film released in 2018. This action-packed sequel to the 2013 film Pacific Rim, was directed by Steven S. DeKnight. Ten years after the Battle of the Breach, when the Kaiju sea monsters were defeated, the Jaeger program, which trained teams to operate giant mechanical suits to combat the Kaiju, has evolved. Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, teams up with prodigy hacker Amara and his estranged co-pilot Nate to lead a new generation into battle when the alien monsters make an unexpected return.

Making / Production

The production was initiated by Legendary Entertainment and Universal Pictures. Steven S. DeKnight took over as director from Guillermo del Toro, bringing a fresh take to the sequel. Filming took place in Australia and China, utilising state-of-the-art technology and CGI to bring the gigantic Jaegers and Kaiju to life.

Actors

• John Boyega plays Jake Pentecost, Stacker's son who once trained to be a Jaeger pilot. Boyega showcases great versatility in his performance, balancing seriousness with a charisma.
• Scott Eastwood portrays Nate Lambert, a top-ranking Jaeger pilot. Eastwood delivers a powerful performance, having a serious and disciplined demeanor which serves as a contrast to Boyega's character.
• Cailee Spaeny acts as Amara Namani, a prodigy hacker and pilot-in-training. Spaeny's raw energy and youthful determination is a highlight of the movie.

Trivia / Interesting Facts

• Despite Guillermo del Toro not directing this installment, he remained on the project as a producer and approves the decision to select DeKnight as director.
• This was Steven S. DeKnight's feature directorial debut, previously, DeKnight had directed episodes of TV Shows, including "Angel", "Spartacus", and "Daredevil".
• Pacific Rim: Uprising is the first Hollywood movie to be filmed in the Wanda Oriental Movie Metropolis, a mega studio in Qingdao, China.
