About Phineas and Ferb
Phineas and Ferb is an American animated musical comedy television series. Originally broadcast as a one-episode preview around August 2007 and again previewed in September 2007, the series officially premiered on February 1, 2008, on Disney Channel, and follows Phineas Flynn and his British stepbrother Ferb Fletcher on summer vacation. Every day, the boys embark on some grand new project, which annoys their controlling sister, Candace, who frequently tries to reveal their shenanigans to their mother, Linda Flynn-Fletcher, and less frequently to their father, Lawrence Fletcher. The series follows a standard plot system; running gags occur every episode, and the b-plot almost always features Perry the Platypus working as a spy (Agent P) for OWCA (the Organization Without a Cool Acronym), to defeat the latest scheme of Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, a mad scientist driven largely by a need to assert his evilness (although he is not truly evil, having a good heart in the end).
Making / Production
The show was created by Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh who previously worked together on Fox's animated series The Simpsons and Nickelodeon's animated series Rocko's Modern Life. Povenmire and Marsh developed the series concept together and pitched it to networks for 16 years before securing a run on Disney Channel.
Actors
- Phineas Flynn: voiced by Vincent Martella. Martella brings an enthusiastic energy to Phineas, a boy always looking for adventure.
- Ferb Fletcher: voiced by Thomas Sangster. Sangster gives Ferb a reserved and calm demeanor, the perfect contrast to Phineas.
- Candace Flynn: voiced by Ashley Tisdale. Tisdale plays Candace, the boys' older sister, who is always trying to bust them for their outrageous endeavors.
- Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz: voiced by Dan Povenmire. As the show's main antagonist, Povenmire provides the voice for the evil yet somewhat sympathetic villain, adding a dose of humor to his ineptitude.
- Perry the Platypus/Agent P: voiced by Dee Bradley Baker. Baker brings a range of non-verbal expressions to Perry, who operates as a secret agent.
Trivia / Interesting Facts
- The idea of Phineas and Ferb was conceived after Povenmire sketched a triangular boy – the prototype for Phineas – in a restaurant.
- Perry the Platypus doesn't make any real animal noises as platypus are silent in nature. His characteristic "grrrrr" noises are made up.
- All of the main characters are named after ancestors of creators.
- The character of Dr. Doofenshmirtz is based on a monster Povenmire drew at age 25.
Awards
The show has been highly praised by viewers and critics for its creativity, humor, and music. It won several awards over its airing, including a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Writing in Animation, an Annie Award for Writing in a Television Production, and a BAFTA Children's Award for International.
