About Prometheus

Prometheus is a 2012 science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott, written by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof. The movie follows a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery.

Making / Production

Prometheus began development in the early 2000s as a fifth installment in the Alien franchise. Scott and director James Cameron developed ideas for a film that would serve as a prequel to Scott's 1979 science-fiction horror film Alien. By 2003, the project was deferred by the development of Alien vs. Predator, and remained dormant until 2009 when Scott again showed interest.

• The film's title, 'Prometheus', refers to the Titan of Greek mythology who stole fire from the gods and gave it to mankind, every day his liver was eaten by an Eagle and every night the liver grew back, because of his immortality.
• 'Prometheus' is Ridley Scott's return to the science fiction genre after 30 years. His prior sci-fi films were Alien (1979) and Blade Runner (1982).
• The 'Designing the Prometheus' featurette reveals that the ship is 1,300 feet long, approximately two and a half times the size of the Nostromo from the original Alien film.
