About Regular Show

Regular Show is an American animated television series that aired from 2010 to 2017 on Cartoon Network. The show revolves around the daily surreal adventures of two best friends, a blue jay named Mordecai and a raccoon named Rigby. They aim to lead a simple life performing groundskeeping duties at a park, but usually find themselves getting into unexpected and often surreal misadventures.

Making / Production

The show is the creation of J.G. Quintel who previously worked as a creative director on "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack". Much of the series is inspired by Quintel's college days and incorporates an array of pop culture references and quirky humor. Regular Show utilizes hand-drawn animation, and each character is drawn in a unique, abstract style.

Actors

  • J.G. Quintel as Mordecai: Quintel provides the unique, laid-back voice of Mordecai, a 23-year-old blue jay who loves to spend his time playing video games and slacking off.
  • William Salyers as Rigby: Salyers voices Rigby, Mordecai's best friend and partner in slackitude. Although Rigby is often the instigator of their hilariously surreal adventures, Salyers makes sure there's a likable charm to the character.
  • Sam Marin as Benson, Pops, and Muscle Man: Marin takes on the task of voicing these three distinctive characters, bringing to them a depth that perfectly complements the bizarreness of the series.
  • Mark Hamill as Skips: Yes, the Star Wars legend voices Skips, the wise yeti who often provides solutions to Mordecai and Rigby's troubles.

Trivia / Interesting Facts

  • The characters in Regular Show are actually based on characters from J.G. Quintel's student films from California Institute of the Arts: "The Naive Man From Lolliland" and "2 in the AM PM".
  • Regular Show is considered more of an adult's animation due its quirky humor and mature themes.
  • Mark Hamill, who voices Skips, is most famous for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise.
  • The show's quirky style and mixture of surreal humor and heart led to a wide demographic of viewers ranging from children to adults.

Awards

Regular Show boasts several nominations and awards, including the prestigious Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short-Format Animated Program in 2012.
