About Run

Run is a 2020 American psychological thriller film directed by Aneesh Chaganty. The film follows the story of a teenage girl, Chloe, who begins to suspect that her mother, Diane is keeping a dark secret from her. Chloe, who is homeschooled by her mother, discovers that she has been isolated and manipulated by Diane her whole life. She grapples with the shock and fear of this realization while trying to escape her mother's clutches.

Making / Production

Run was directed by Aneesh Chaganty and written by Chaganty and Sev Ohanian. The idea for the film came from Chaganty's own experience of growing up in a close-knit family and his desire to explore the dark side of such relationships. The filmmakers aimed to create a tense, suspenseful movie that also commented on issues of control and isolation in family relationships.

Actors

  • Sarah Paulson as Diane: Paulson gives a chilling performance as the manipulative mother, Diane. The American Horror Story star brings depth to a character who could easily have been one-dimensional, making her both terrifying and compelling.
  • Kiera Allen as Chloe: In her debut film role, Allen delivers a strong performance as Chloe. Allen, who is wheelchair user in real life, brings authenticity and nuance to her portrayal of a disabled character fighting for her freedom.

Trivia / Interesting Facts

  • This is the first major thriller film in over 70 years to star a real wheelchair user.
  • Run was originally going to be released in theaters, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was released on Hulu instead.

Quotes
