Scream 4 is a 2011 American slasher film directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson. Released as the fourth installment in the Scream film series, it stars an ensemble cast that includes David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin. In the film, Sidney Prescott returns to Woodsboro on the fifteenth anniversary of the original massacre, where she must stop a new Ghostface killer. The film explores the motives behind the series' villain's killings and his obsession with the horror movie genre.

Making / Production

The film was made 11 years after the last installment 'Scream 3' (2000) with the director, Wes Craven, and writer Kevin Williamson returning. After multiple script revisions and reshoots, 'Scream 4' was released in 2011. The shooting took place in and around Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Actors

• David Arquette as Deputy Dewey Riley. Throughout the franchise, his character has been known for his dedication to the law, and he successfully continues to portray the resilient and brave Dewey.
• Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. Campbell's character has always been at the center of the franchise’s plot and in this sequel, she bringing to her character the fortitude and bravery required, becoming a beacon of hope in the horror that surrounds Woodsboro.
• Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers-Riley. Playing a retired journalist, Cox perfectly captures the frustration and desperation of her character. Effective investigative instincts are always her strength and this is portrayed wonderfully in Scream 4.
• Emma Roberts as Jill Roberts. Jill is Sidney's cousin and the new series protagonist. Roberts portrayal of a complex character, that is misunderstood and desperate for attention, is noteworthy.
• Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed. Panettiere portrays one of the film's more notable characters, with her knowledge of horror movies and a tough exterior.

• This is director Wes Craven's final feature film before his death in 2015.
• 'Scream 4' was reportedly planned to be the start of a new trilogy.
• Unlike previous Scream films, Scream 4 was not entirely shot in California. Instead, production was moved to Michigan for tax rebate incentives.
