About Sex and the City (HBO)
"Sex and the City" is an American television series created by Darren Star. Adapted from Candace Bushnell's 1997 book of the same name, it premiered on HBO in 1998, where it aired for six seasons (from 1998 to 2004). The show broke barriers with its raw and realistic depiction of the lives and trials of four women — Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbes — in New York City, tackling topics such as relationships, career, and feminism.
Making / Production
"Sex and the City" was created by Darren Star, best known for creating "Melrose Place" and "Beverly Hills, 90210". It was shot with the city of New York as the fifth character. Its bold narrative, shot with a combination of film and a sitcom-like multi-camera setup, made it distinctive.
Actors
- Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw - Carrie, the loveable, fashion-forward writer questioned, explored, and often messed up relationships on her quest for love. Parker infused life into Carrie's dilemmas with her impeccable performance, proving that she was the only one made to play the role.
- Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones - Portrayed by Cattrall, Samantha was a confident, sexually liberated woman. Cattrall brought a bluntness to her role, making Samantha never shy away from breaking norms.
- Kristin Davis as Charlotte York - Davis brought a sweet and traditional charm to Charlotte, who believed in love and fairy tales, in contrast to her more cynical friends.
- Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes - Nixon portrayed a successful lawyer. Always level-headed, her character broke barriers in terms of representing independent women on television.
