About Static Shock

Static Shock, released in 2000, is an animated television series based on the DC Comics superhero Static. The show focuses on a boy named Virgil Hawkins who acquires electromagnetic powers after coming into contact with an experimental gas. He uses these powers to help fight crime in his city while dealing with the difficulties of adolescence and navigating the pitfalls of being a superhero.

Making / Production

The series was produced by Warner Bros. Animation and developed by Dwayne McDuffie, Robert L. Washington III, and John Paul Leon. Static Shock was a breakthrough series in that it portrayed a positive African-American superhero lead - a rarity at that time, providing a much-needed role model for many young viewers.
