The Vampire Diaries is a popular supernatural television series that aired from 2009 to 2017. The show is based on a book series of the same name written by L.J. Smith. The series is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, a town steeped in supernatural history. The plot revolves around Elena Gilbert, a teenager who falls in love with a 162-year-old vampire named Stefan Salvatore and his older and darker brother Damon. The brothers have a tumultuous history, both in love with the vampire Katherine Pierce, and their rivalry often threatens those who are close to them.
